5 Simple Clean Eating Tips

“Clean eating”...do you REALLY know what it means or do just think you know?  With the thousands of experts out there trying to tell you to stop eating fruit and put a whole bunch of butter in your coffee, I think it’s safe to say we are getting lots of mixed messages.

In my experience it’s all about eating more of the good foods and limiting the processed. But everything in moderation to keep you from losing it (and bingeing on what you’re forbidden to eat)!

How to get results: If you kinda do it... it kinda works. If you REALLY do it... it REALLY WORKS.

Depending on which friend you talk to about clean eating, you’ll inevitably get someone who feels like it’s some extreme diet, tough to keep up with over the long-term, and maybe think it’s more expensive to eat healthy. That is NOT TRUE at all!

I follow the clean eating philosophy because it’s so EASY to follow and because we've actually SAVED money by sticking with the basics.

So what can you do to start implementing a clean eating lifestyle? Try these 5 simple clean eating tips and watch your stomach get flatter and your energy go through the roof!

Eat less refined sugars.

I don’t drink carbohydrate drinks (aka:sports drinks like Gatorade) or soda! Now this doesn’t mean I don’t eat sugar overall. I eat plenty of sugar that comes from fruits, other natural food sources. The key is to cut out white processed sugar from your daily dietary habits as much as possible. And avoid artificial sugars (like when you see a label say “sugar free” that means they made it sweet with chemicals!), flavors and colors.

Don’t eat processed foods. If you don’t know whether the food is “processed” then just check the nutrition label and read the ingredient list. If anything sounds non-natural, manufactured, you have no idea what it is, or you can’t pronounce it then it’s probably processed food on some level.  Anything that comes in a bag or a box is usually processed. Yuck.

Eat more fruits and vegetables. Your mom had a point when she used to tell you this as a kid and even perhaps as an adult.  When you get the fiber and vitamins from eating lots of vegetables (I mean like try to eat them with every meal) then you stay fuller longer and are filling up on the good stuff and won’t be looking for more 20 min later. It may take a while to get used to this but you will definitely have more energy and feel lighter if you start to implement this.

Eat more lean protein. Lean protein include things like salmon and chicken. Lean protein builds, fuels, and maintains lean body muscles. Lean body muscles are what help give people a very lean and toned look.

I eat lots of eggs, chicken, ground turkey and grass fed beef. Lots of people include yogurt or cottage cheese as their sources of protein but I’m not a fan of too much dairy. It bloats you and getting your protein from other sources is just a better option for your digestion too.

Drink more water. Drinking more water actually helps the body retain less water weight. It helps flush out toxins that we accumulate, our skin stays hydrated and it actually gives you more energy.  Well hydrated people eat less at each sitting as well.
